Associate of Fine Arts in Fashion Design; Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
You can learn about developing and creating apparel, as well as the fundamentals of design and the sourcing and use of textiles. You can be involved in a number of creative design projects, and can spend time studying the commercial side of the fashion design world. By the time you graduate, you will have developed a professional portfolio, and should be prepared to enter the fashion world.
The Fashion Design program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the fashion design, retail, and merchandising industries. Draping, pattern drafting, computer design, and construction using industry-standard equipment are used to develop new concepts and to refine students’ individual skills and talents.
Our curriculum can develop competent multitasking skills, integrating conceptual and creative abilities with technical and sound business practices that can prepare our students for successful professional careers in the fashion industry.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts program will provide instruction in greater depth and breadth than the associate degree program.

Performance Objectives of the Fashion Design Program
- Design Skills: Graduates can create fashion sketches and convert their design concepts into final constructions. They draft patterns, fabricate, drape, and tailor fabric into final, marketable garments.
- Merchandising Skills: Graduates apply merchandising and marketing concepts to their work, employing effective showroom and retail techniques in the display and sale of fashion. They understand the principals of visual merchandising, fashion marketing, and consumer behavior, and understand the quality and performance of textiles.
- Communication and Critical Thinking Skills: Graduates generate creative solutions to challenging assignments, demonstrating a clear understanding of project needs and marketing demands. Graduates communicate ideas effectively through written and oral presentations of their work.
